Mcgettigan — A Donegal Name

McGettigan comes from Mac Eiteagáin, a name whose root has not been confidently explained despite genuine scholarly attempts. The family were established in County Donegal, on the same rugged Ulster ground that carried several other Gaelic names whose exact meaning has simply not survived as clearly as their history has.

Another honestly open question in this library — a real family, a real county, and a meaning nobody has managed to pin down yet.
