Gaelic Origin · Root meaning ‘heroic’
Leahy comes from Ó Laochdha, from laoch, ‘hero’ or ‘warrior’. The family were established in Tipperary before spreading south into Cork, where the name remains common today, carrying its own virtue outright rather than through a battle or a title that needed to be won first.
A name that names its own virtue outright, and has carried it through eight centuries without needing to prove it again.
Irish form: Ó Laochdha
